June 2018: This chamber, manufactured by Allectra is used to provide thermal insulation for a cryogenic gas trapping system that concentrates compounds of interest before analysis. An air sample flows through tubing, packed with trapping material, wrapped around a standoff that is cooled to about -170 C by a Stirling cooler. Volatile compounds are trapped while the oxygen and nitrogen pass through. The trap is heated electrically to release the compounds of interest into an analyser.
This chamber can handle 4 traps simultaneously.
